Tottenham face battle to keep Mourinho’s assistant head coach Sacramento

Tottenham are facing a battle to keep one of Jose Mourinho’s trusted lieutenants, with Belgian outfit Mouscron believed to be interested in Joao Sacramento.

Sacramento, 31, is assistant head coach to Mourinho at Tottenham and well respected by the Portuguese boss.

Mouscron are looking for a new boss and fresh direction after sacking Fernando Da Cruz. The Frenchman lasted just nine games after a winless start to the season.

The French speaking municipality side sit bottom of the the Jupiler League with three draws and six defeats.

Now though they are looking for a change and Het Laatste Nieuws (via Sport Witness) say that Tottenham coach Sacramento is at the top of their list.

The report claims that Sacramento “will take over” if Mouscron’s owner Gerard Lopez, can “detach” him from Mourinho and Spurs.

Lopez is also the owner of Lille and so knows Sacramento from his time with the French side.

The Portuguese coach spent two years coaching with Lille, which included a spell as caretaker manager, before leaving for Spurs to link up with Mourinho in November 2019.

Before that he spent a period of time at Monaco working under Claudio Ranieri as head of tactical analysis.

As a teenager he studied a football degree at the University of Glamorgan and managed to attract the interest of Mourinho with a study.

Mourinho was impressed and gave Sacramento the chance to work with him last year. The report does not mention the stance of Tottenham, but Mourinho will likely be loathed to lose Sacramento.

Whether or not the Belgian club will be a big enough lure remains to be seen. Lopez though, per the report, is also considering Miguel Cardoso as an alternative.

Son in line for new contract

Meanwhile, after an impressive transfer window Tottenham will turn their attentions to securing the futures of their current squad.

Spurs added seven players to Jose Mourinho’s squad over the summer, with Swansea centre-back Joe Rodon the last to arrive on EFL deadline day.

But the Daily Mail claims that Daniel Levy will now try to renegotiate the contracts of some of the club’s top stars, with the in-form Son Heung-min in line for a new contract.

The 28-year-old has been a key player for Mourinho since his arrival late last year, scoring 18 goals for the Portuguese. There has already been talk of some of Europe’s big hitters potentially making a move for the player.
