Tottenham, Leeds transfer target makes sarcastic outburst after failed move

Tottenham, Arsenal and Leeds target Geoffrey Kondogbia has publicly blasted Valencia president Anil Murthy over his failed summer transfer.

Valencia midfielder Kondogbia was reportedly of interest to Leeds, but Atletico Madrid were believed to be favourites to sign the 27-year-old.

La Liga journalist Hector Gomez claimed that Kondogbia wanted out of the LaLiga side, while Atletico were looking for a replacement for Thomas Partey.

Gomez reported both clubs were actively chasing the Frenchman, who looked unsettled in Spain.

In July Todofichajes claimed Arsenal remained keen on Kondogbia, who they have tracked for a “long time”.

Tottenham were also believed to be tracking the player earlier in the year.

Kondogbia is out of contract at the Mestalla in 2022, meaning Valencia are facing a race against time to sell him on for a profit.

They forked out €25m to Inter Milan for his signature in 2018, but his value is depreciating as time goes by.

And Kondogbia lashed out at Murthy in an Instagram post on Thursday night after he was blocked from leaving the Mestalla.

“After destroying an ambitious project, you had to mislead the coach and, finally, me. Thank you, Anil Murthy,” Kondogbia said.

Gracia offered to quit

Valencia sold a series of players this summer. Captain Dani Parejo, Francis Coquelin, Rodrigo Moreno and Ferran Torres were all sold with Man City buying the latter for around £20m.

Coach Javi Gracia revealed earlier this month that he had offered his resignation.

According to Marca, Gracia met with Murthy to seek clarification as to why none of his requested targets were signed.

However, he did not resign, as that would have cost him €3m, according to Marca.
