Tottenham warned about future chances of signing striker after failed talks

Torino sporting director Davide Vagnati has warned Tottenham that he would like Andrea Belotti to stay at the club forever after Spurs failed in a summer approach.

Signing a new striker to add cover for Harry Kane was one of Tottenham’s biggest priorities during the transfer window. Eventually, they secured a deal for Carlos Vinicius.

Before that materialised, they were linked with a plethora of potential targets. And Belotti appears to have been a genuine option for them.

The Torino captain has excelled in Serie A in recent years, scoring 94 goals in 194 appearances for his current club.

However, the Turin-based side have always remained resolute in their attempts to keep Belotti away from bigger clubs.

And now, director Vagnati has reiterated how much they want to keep the Italian striker – but does admit that Spurs were in talks for him during the transfer window.

“I’d love to see Belotti stay at Torino for the rest of his career,” Vagnati told Sky Sports.

“He has values that are crucial for being the captain of Torino. We had a chat with Tottenham but Belotti is too important for us.”

Belotti was also linked with Manchester United early in the summer, while there were rumours that Carlo Ancelotti wanted to take him to Everton.

Stones snubbed Spurs

Meanwhile, at the other end of the pitch, another target that fell through for Tottenham was John Stones.

Spurs were keen to add a centre-back on deadline day, with Swansea’s Joe Rodon one target.

But reports suggest Tottenham also asked for Stones, who has fallen out of favour at Manchester City.

However, the England international turned down the chance to join them on loan with the option for a permanent transfer.
