Transfer news and football gossip: Liverpool to sell THREE players to fund Werner signing, Arsenal to swap Lacazette for Lemar, Manchester United reignite Koulibaly interest rounds up all the latest transfer news and football gossip from Thursday’s papers and online…

Liverpool will sell THREE players this summer to fund a move for Timo Werner, the RB Leipzig forward. The Reds have long wanted Werner, who has scored 21 goals in only 26 Bundesliga matches this season, but the financial fallout of coronavirus means they will be unable to splash the cash this summer. However, Liverpool have figured out they can raise the necessary funds for Werner by cashing in on Xherdan Shaqiri, Harry Wilson and Marko Grujic. (The Athletic)

Jurgen Klopp has personally phoned Werner to convince him to move to Anfield, reports claim. The Germany ace wants to join Liverpool rather than stay in his homeland amid rival interest from Bayern Munich, but Werner is unlikely to displace Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane or Roberto Firmino from the starting XI, while he will surely not accept a bench role given his reputation in the game. So Klopp has called Werner to convince him Anfield is the best place for him to continue his career – FULL STORY

Arsenal could sign Thomas Lemar in a swap deal for Alexandre Lacazette with Atletico Madrid chasing the Gunners striker. Lacazette has struggled this season but is wanted in Spain, and Arsenal could make the most of Atleti’s interest by finally signing their long-term target Lemar. The north Londoners have wanted France international Lemar since he was a star for Monaco but missed out on his signing in 2017. (AS)

Manchester United want to keep Odion Ighalo beyond the end of his loan deal, which is due to expire before the Premier League resumes next month. Ighalo has scored four goals in eight games since joining the Red Devils in January on a temporary basis from Shanghai Shenhua. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is known to want to bring a new centre-forward to Old Trafford, but Ighalo’s impressive form means he may be the answer to Man United’s goalscoring problem. (Sky Sports)

Manchester United will reportedly reignite their interest in Kalidou Koulibaly this summer after learning Liverpool are monitoring the Napoli defender. Red Devils boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is understood to rate the centre-back, 28, highly and was tipped to sign the Senegal international last summer, before moving for Harry Maguire instead. Koulibaly is understood to now be worth around £62m, but United may have to go up against their fierce rivals Liverpool, who will want a new centre-back to replace the outgoing Dejan Lovren – FULL STORY

Neymar will not return to Barcelona this summer due to the financial impact of coronavirus. The PSG ace has been linked with a move back to Catalonia to join his former club, whom he left in 2017 in a world-record £198million deal. But his agent says the ‘difficult market’ takes any departure from Paris off the cards. “I think Neymar will stay at PSG because the market is difficult,” said Wagner Ribeiro. “The economic world of football will change.” (Daily Star)
